Hull of new 40m J-Class Rainbow turned 18-Mar-2010

The hull of the 40m J-Class sailing yacht Rainbow was turned on March 12th at the Bloemsma Aluminiumbouw yard in Makkum and will soon be transported by barge to Holland Jachtbouw for completion.

Dykstra & Partners were commissioned by a repeat client to work with the designs of William Starling Burgess in recreating the elegant lines of the original Rainbow, a J-Class yacht built at the Herreschoff yard in Bristol, New England for Harold Vanderbilt in 1934.

Dykstra is faithfully following the original drawings although the yacht is now constucted in aluminium with a carbon mast and DC racing sails. She is to be fully classed by Lloyds and, to make her suitable for the charter market, will be MCA compliant. Rainbow is expected to launch towards the end of 2011.
